I am currently enjoying the first time I’ve really had the house to myself since I moved home. Sitting on the couch nekkid. Reading at the dinner table. Drinking milk out of the carton, with the refridgerator door air conditioning the kitchen. Leaving the toilet unflushed. Ah, luxury!
For the past few years, Mater and Pater have been retiring to Florida for the winter months–as is The Canadian Senior’s wont–but they stopped doing that the year I moved back here. I dunno what the reasoning was… unless they were afraid I’d throw some crazyass party and trash the place. As I have done soooooo many times in the past [insert eyeball roll here]. More likely, they were just so darned happy to have me back that they couldn’t bear to leave. Right? But now, perhaps, a year (plus) of having me lazing around the house on my ass home without incident has convinced them that a few days away might not be so bad after all… And so we all win.
My Sainted Mother wrote down my household duties (water plants, chlorinate pool, turn lights on, turn lights off, turn on A/C if it gets hot, turn off A/C if it cools down, bring in newspapers, bring in mail, take out garbage et cetera ad nauseum) so that I wouldn’t forget any of these (normal everyday) activities (in my apparently addled-brained state). I’m sure I will still manage to kill a plant in her absence. Thank God the dog’s demise was years ago. Imagine having that death on your hands! (As a matter of fact, my sister does. The dog kicked the proverbial bucket on her watch. Better her than me, I say in my most ruthless voice.)

So rather than sit here in front of the fugbox like I do so much of the time while the ‘rents are upstairs, I’m going to take advantage of my freedom to venture upstairs into the light… and I think I’ll go eat cookies in the livingroom and put my drink down on the table… without a coaster!!!
In the meantime, here’s a song for you, Constant Reader. I downloaded the album Skimming the Skum by Lefties Soul Connection from eMusic about a month ago and have been enjoying driving to it ever since.
