Updating a coupla older mp3 posts

July 27, 2007

Now that I have an embedded widget (*ouch*) to actually present songs here, it occurred to me that there were a coupla older posts that talked about songs but which couldn’t actually present them at the time. I have just modified them so that you can hear the songs I’m talking about in the posts. Follow the links to listen: one is The Beautiful South’s cover of “You’re The One That I Want”, from my favourite album of theirs, and the other is Trick & Kubic ft. Valeska’s “Easy”, which cy brought back from the World Cup in Germany last summer. (One of the music critics he works with had asked him to bring back the top club hit in Berlin at the time. And this was it.)

Hope you like ‘em!

Monstrous spoiler!

July 24, 2007

Okay, the cat may be outta the bag… JJ Abrams’ über-(not so)secret upcoming movie is called Monstrous.

Or, well, mebbe Slusho.

Still, it might be 1-18-08.

Of course, it really could be Cloverfield.

A coupla nameless & creditless clips have been leaked and have (naturally) found their way to the internets. One of ‘em is a pretty vague little sequence in which panicked folks run this way and that, darting around military vehicles. The only tangible link to what we saw in the trailer a few weeks ago is the hand-held camera. However, the Sephora store is being touted as a clue that it’s the Abrams film.

But that… that’s nuthin’. What’s really significant is that an image of the monstrous thing terrorizing NYC in that trailer we saw a few weeks ago has been leaked. Do not click the “(more)” link if you don’t wanna be spoiled… You have been warned… (more…)

Home Alone

I am currently enjoying the first time I’ve really had the house to myself since I moved home. Sitting on the couch nekkid. Reading at the dinner table. Drinking milk out of the carton, with the refridgerator door air conditioning the kitchen. Leaving the toilet unflushed. Ah, luxury!

For the past few years, Mater and Pater have been retiring to Florida for the winter months–as is The Canadian Senior’s wont–but they stopped doing that the year I moved back here. I dunno what the reasoning was… unless they were afraid I’d throw some crazyass party and trash the place. As I have done soooooo many times in the past [insert eyeball roll here]. More likely, they were just so darned happy to have me back that they couldn’t bear to leave. Right? But now, perhaps, a year (plus) of having me lazing around the house on my ass home without incident has convinced them that a few days away might not be so bad after all… And so we all win.

My Sainted Mother wrote down my household duties (water plants, chlorinate pool, turn lights on, turn lights off, turn on A/C if it gets hot, turn off A/C if it cools down, bring in newspapers, bring in mail, take out garbage et cetera ad nauseum) so that I wouldn’t forget any of these (normal everyday) activities (in my apparently addled-brained state). I’m sure I will still manage to kill a plant in her absence. Thank God the dog’s demise was years ago. Imagine having that death on your hands! (As a matter of fact, my sister does. The dog kicked the proverbial bucket on her watch. Better her than me, I say in my most ruthless voice.)

The death of an innocent.

So rather than sit here in front of the fugbox like I do so much of the time while the ‘rents are upstairs, I’m going to take advantage of my freedom to venture upstairs into the light… and I think I’ll go eat cookies in the livingroom and put my drink down on the table… without a coaster!!!

In the meantime, here’s a song for you, Constant Reader. I downloaded the album Skimming the Skum by Lefties Soul Connection from eMusic about a month ago and have been enjoying driving to it ever since.

Oh dear, there are just so many jokes that could be made here at the expense of my male friends… I hardly know where to begin.
